The route

From Cancun Airport to Bahia Principe

From the airport, the drive runs south on the Cancun-Tulum highway past Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, and the Xcaret and Xpu-Ha turnoffs before reaching the Bahia Principe entrance near Akumal. It is the same highway corridor used for Puerto Aventuras and Akumal transfers, just a bit further along. Under normal conditions the trip runs about 60 minutes; during high-season checkout and check-in windows or holiday weekend traffic through Playa del Carmen, plan for closer to 70 or 75 minutes. Your driver tracks your flight number, so a delayed landing does not change your pickup time, and the standard wait allowance covers a slow customs line without extra charge.

Once inside the gate, the complex itself is large enough that a shuttle or long walk separates some sections from the beach or from each other, which is worth knowing before you land.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is Bahia Principe actually in Tulum or Coba?

No. The resort complex is near Akumal and Xpu-Ha. Explore Tulum, Explore Coba, and Explore Akumal are hotel section names within the Bahia Principe complex; they do not mean the airport transfer is going to Tulum Centro or the Coba archaeological site.

Which Bahia Principe hotel name should I put on the transfer reservation?

Use the exact section from the confirmation: Bahia Principe Explore Coba, Bahia Principe Explore Tulum, or Bahia Principe Explore Akumal. The hotels share the broader complex but have different arrival areas, so “Bahia Principe” alone is not the most useful drop-off instruction.

Do all Bahia Principe hotels use the same lobby?

No. They share the wider development and approach from Highway 307, but the airport vehicle still needs to continue to the specific hotel section. Confirming the full name in advance avoids arriving at one sister property and then relying on an internal shuttle with all of your luggage.

Should golfers or travelers with dive equipment mention it before booking?

Yes. Club bags, dive bags, and other oversized equipment can change the practical vehicle choice even for a small group. Add the equipment and suitcase count to the reservation so the ride is comfortable for the full airport transfer and not planned only around the number of seats.
